Description
This is a 1921 obsolete passport with Visa granted by the Legation of the United States of America at Peking China to Edward Fox who was lived in New York City and worked in Shanghai China for Mustard & Co. Stamps on the Visa include Shanghai (British Quarter), Chang-Hai (French Quarter), Hong Kong, Singapore, Saigon, Colombo, Port Said, and Dover. There is also a stamp with "Sphinx". This "Emergency Passport" allowed Mr. Fox to travel to "China, Hong Kong, Straight Settlements ["Strait Settlements" group of British territories located in Southeast Asia], Ceylon, French Indo-China [now Vietnam], Aden [city in Yemen], Egypt, France, England." [Shortly after the dates on this Passport, the 1st National Congress of the Communist Party of China (First meeting of the Chinese Communist Party) was held in Shanghai on July 23, 1921]. There is a red embossed seal from the Legation of the USA Peking, China. The passport holder measures 4.75" x 6.375" folded in half closed, the Visa document measures 8.75" x 12.125" Open to a full page, one of 4 pages in booklet format.
