    Antique 19th C. Red Lacquer over Wicker Charger Plate with Flower
    South East Asia
    For your consideration is a very beautiful lacquered charger
    Cinnabar red over wicker, skillfully woven split bamboo, covered with a layer of black clay and thickly lacquered in scarlet red
    Exquisitely engraved decoration upfront, consisting of central flower and various concentric ribbons around the rim
    The technique used for the decorations is called "yun" and uses a color (yellow and black) that will adhere only to the incisions of the engravings
    The plate stands on six circular feet made of ceramic
    A similar plate is catalogued under # 1998,0613.2 in The British Museum, London, as well as in the Museum of Archeology and Anthropology, Cambridge, UK
