Buff & Buff Solar attachment for surveyors transit surveying Smith

Buff & Buff Telescopic Land Solar Attachment No.2 for use on model 2C 5½" Precise Transit.
This can be fitted to either the model 2C Transit with the additional modification to the mounting standard. I have seen 2C transits made for the attachment with out the attachment. I suspect many were removed to lighten the instrument and use it with out the attachment that is why there have been many by them selves. Please see the photos. These solar attachment are often referred to as a Smith Solar Attachment. It is made of brass and the counter  weight is made of lead. There are no attaching screws, nuts, or washers, and none available. The Attachment
is in excellent mechanical working condition, the silver divided arcs are tarnished. The attachments were often removed from the transit and by themselves are rare and the counter weights are rarer. It probably dates to the 1930's
Crosshairs are intact.
