Drake 2-B Ham Radio ReceiverTime to part with the Drake 2-B ham radio receiver I bought in 1962 to celebrate passing the General exam.
Everything works as it should.
The factory-installed crystals cover 80, 40, 20, and 15 meters, plus 28.5 – 29.1 MHz on 10 meters. The Drake 100 kHz crystal calibrator is included.
I have added crystals for the 60, 30, 17, and 12 meter bands plus 28.0 – 28.5 MHz (the portion of 10 meters people use now).
The 2B was the first low cost (9) HF receiver with crystal stability, even on 10 meters, and break-in CW operation above 50 WPM. The called it "The Poor Man's Collins."
The passband tuning in the 50 kHz 3rd IF was also a first – took some getting used to.
Cosmetically it’s about a 7 or 8 – There are a few dings and a dent at the top rear. Otherwise, normal signs of 60 years use.
I replaced all electrolytic caps a couple years ago, but left the original metal can in place for looks, though it’s not connected. I'll include a set of spare tubes, mostly NOS.
If you have questions, just ask - always glad to help.
