If you're looking at this ad, there's a good chance that you're already familiar with the DD-1. If you're not, I suggest that you check out WA7YBS's website, the Western Historic Radio Museum. There you will find a wealth of information including the history of diversity reception and the development of this specific model. In short, the DD-1 is a dual-diversity receiver designed in the late 1930's by Hallicrafterschief
engineer
Karl Miles
and James McLaughlin. Their design is based on the receiver built by XE1G, which was featured in an article of QST magazine. Hallicrafters built somewhere between 100 and 150 of these receivers. Needless to say, these were extremely expensive in their day.
This particular unit was acquired from a longtime ham who is thinning out his collection. The unit had been completely rebuilt some years ago (I'm guessing 20-30 years ago) and worked great. It was used less and less as the years went on and was ultimately sold to us. The previous owner had the cabinet built to spec. That's right, the cabinet you see in the photos is not original to the receiver. He had a friend who was kind enough to loan his DD-1, and a professional cabinet builder took exact measurements directly from the original. This is no hack-job! I can guarantee you that you'll be impressed with the workmanship... it's identical to the original in dimensions and overall quality. The only other pieces that I
know
to be non-original are the clear dial scales which were reproduced by a fellow collector, along with the inlays of the carrier meters. Also, the shield box containing the serial number was missing, so a the shield box has been reproduced.
eBay only allows for twelve photos to be uploaded to a listing. However, I'm more than happy to email additional photos of any specifics you'd like to see. Also,
serious buyers are more than welcome to inspect the receiver in person.
It's been many years since the receiver was refurbished, and we strongly recommend having it gone-through before being put back into service.
If you're not qualified to work on vintage electronics (or aren't prepared to hire someone to do the work for you), please do not purchase this receiver.
The receiver is being listed for local pick-up only. I am not willing to ship the unit. You are more than welcome to arrange your own transportation... but any moving, packaging, crating, and loading of the receiver must be done by you or your agents. I will not be held responsible for any damages that occur during this process or in transit.
