Description:
This sale is for the Breithaupt / Kassel Suspension Mining Theodolite in Box pictured.  It was sold here in the US  through or by Keuffel & Esser / K & E.   This unusual instrument looks to be NOS / Never Been Used.
It dates from the 70's. There is a translated set of  instructions for use and a K & E bulletin announcing their carrying the  product is included. Basically it  is a German made Breithaupt / Kassel theodolite or transit designed to be hung upside down from preset points in mines or tunnels.
I found another one in a collection with a good description. You should be able to find it  with this partial address sage.unsw.edu.au/currentstudents/ug/projects/f_pall/html/t11.html.
It has  a knuckle joint like attachment on the  bottom that one would use to mount it from the ceiling of the mine or  tunnel. The level bubbles are all good. Nice clear optics. All  motions operate freely and smoothly. The optics are crisp, and crosshairs are  present.  A great addition to the collection.
