Description
For Sale:A NOS Radiomarine CRM-R1A 20 Channel Crystal Controlled HF Receiver optimized for marine radio use & dependability. This is a true "Broadcast" receiver as it was designed to receive the designated channels chosen by the host. Commercial ships such as the USS United States and radio stations such as VOA or BBC used them to record program material whether that was a telegram, a weather alert or a news or sports event.
It is set up as a CW/SSB receiver as it has a Collins 3.1 kc mechanical filter (F455J-31: # 526-9089-00) installed. The front panel controls will give you details on how it is used. Essentially it tunes like a Drake 4 Series radio: select the channel and the front panel knob/dial is the RF Preselector. The receiver coverage is divided into 3 operating bands:
2 mc - 5 mc
5 mc - 12.5 mc
12 mc - 30 mc
Note the dual antenna input terminals on the rear chasis. Although the dial is divided into three tuning ranges, the circuit design is discriminating antenna signal inputs by provisioning both a "LO" and a "HIGH" frequency connection. Also note the very helpful integral cabinet. Unit rack mounts but stands alone on a desk as well. How cool is that ?
If your Short Wave stations or listening habits are defined, this would make a nice office radio or if you are a mariner, it will serve well. It requires either 115VAC or DC and power is routed to two terminals on the rear apron. Buyer should use a bucking transformer to reduce his modern 125V line to the receivers required 115V design. You could also fashion a doghouse supply which runs 115VDC. If you have been wanting to get your feet wet working with a tube radio, this would be a great first introduction to how a radio works. Remember: this radio will have high voltage and you should NEVER touch anything when it is plugged in. First timers: consult with experienced (and professional) radio personnel when you have questions.
We include a 3rd party COPY of the original manual (which we could never find). Complete details on how to compute & select a crystal are in the manual. We also include a CD with the same information on it. We will update this as as we think of anymore useful information.
Condition:
This is an unused open box item. It came from surplus in its original RMCA cardboard box which we no longer have. It is untested and,
so far as we can tell,
the last time it was powered up was at the issuing RCA factory. All appears pristine. The dial cord slips which is to be expected from a sitting radio. This comes with case & a 3rd party manual COPY. We do not have an original manual. See photos and feel free to ask sensible questions. Sold strictly as found, as is.
Terms:
Buyer understands that this unit has never been powered and we recommend you consult a trained & experienced radio technician.
It is sold Strictly AS-IS and is NOT RETURNABLE.
Shipping:
Shipped via FedEx Ground with insurance & tracking. The receiver is packed in a custom double-wall carton that has been stapled & strapped. It measures approximately 22 x 19 x 15.5 inches and weighs near 30 lbs. Buyer should make sure a cell phone is listed in his or her eBay shipping address so that FedEx can call if necessary.
