    Description

    Vintage Burmese Handmade Kalaga Wall Tapestry Sequin Glass Beads approximately 22" x 22". Shipped with USPS Priority Mail.
    Kalaga embroidered tapestry from Mandalay, Myanmar (Burma) made from Black Velvet fabric embroidered with metallic threads and hand adorned with  metal sequins, beads and frosted glass beads. This tradition is developed in designs found originally in palaces and in pagodas in the Mandalay royal courts. The cloth is stretched over a frame and features metallic threading, glass beading and sequins, it is stuffed with cotton-like material to provide a 3-D effect.
    This particular piece is meticulously handmade and features a colorful Royal warrior riding on a sequined elephant. Very elaborate tapestry with extensive detail. The needlework and heavy embroidery are gorgeous, the piece has been well kept over the years. Some of the glass beads (2) are missing and there are a few spots on the velvet which is common for vintage items. The burlap backing has a rip in the material. It is currently temporarily mounted on a standard wooden frame (available at any hobby lobby type store) and it will be removed for ease of shipping. so the frame is not included.
